Actor, cantante, coreógrafo, bailarín… artista. Desde que era un niño amaba la música y la danza asistiendo a clases y actuando con su hermana Adele. 


Como otros grandes artistas comenzó su carrera en los teatros de Broadway y Londres hasta que en 1933 participaría en su primera película; “Dancing lady”.
Ese mismo año comenzaría su gran carrera en compañía de una de sus parejas más célebres; Ginger Rogers, con la película; “Flying down to rio”.


Su estilo rezumaba elegancia y originalidad. Transmitía frescura y hasta cierto grado de espontaneidad (aunque era un gran profesional).
