Jimmy Van Heusen
Introducción

Extraordinario compositor, que fue autor de canciones con grandes éxitos desde la década de los años 30 hasta los 60, especialmente para películas musicales.
Después de graduarse de la escuela secundaria, pasó a estudiar en un seminario y luego en la Universidad de Syracuse, donde escribió para los musicales de la escuela. Estando en la universidad conoció a Jerry Arlen, hermano de Harold Arlen (uno de los grandes compositores de musicales como ‘El mago de Oz,1939).
Al concluir sus estudios se convirtió en pianista y compositor escribiendo su primer tema importante; ‘It’s the Dreamer in Me’ (1938) con la letra de Tommy Dorsey. Desde entonces su carrera musical iría en ascenso, trabajando para Broadway y Hollywood. A principios de los años 40 se mudó a Hollywood donde comenzó a escribir para musicales y películas. Su primer tema importante sería; ‘Swinging on a Star’ (tema que interpretaba; Bing Crosby), para la película; ‘Siguiendo mi camino’ (1944). El compositor ganaría el Oscar a la mejor canción.
Van Heusen y el gran letrista Sammy Cahn recibieron premios de la Academia a finales de los 50 por las canciones ‘All the Way’, de la película; ‘La máscara del dolor’ (1957). Y ‘High Hopes’, de la película ‘Millonario de ilusiones’ (1959). A lo largo de su carrera llegaría a tener un vínculo especial con Frank Sinatra para quien le escribiría alguna de sus canciones más importantes como; ‘Come Fly With Me’, ‘Only the Lonely’, etc.
